Look After Your Leather And It Will Look After You!

It seems that many peoples perception of leather sofas and upholstery is that it is

the easy option to take, when thinking about cleaning and aftercare.

Unfortunately this really could not be further from the truth. Many of you give it a

wipe with a wet cloth once in a while, whilst others use baby wipes, we even met a

customer that used to use fairy liquid and there are many others, even worse!

Of course none of these methods is really appropriate if you want your leather

sofas and upholstery to last. The damage being done is usually a slow process,

and generally when the wrong cleaning solutions are used the damage is not

noticed immediately, and so you carry on with the same treatment until it's too late.

Leather Needs To Be Cared For Just Like Everything Else.

The most important detail we need to know before attempting any leather cleaning

is the type of leather we are dealing with, there are many different finishes available

and some problems which occur cannot always be solved by just cleaning, for

these particular problems some restoration work might be needed. However regular

cleaning and maintenance will help to avoid these problems as well as replacing

lost natural moisture. Regular cleaning will remove dry soil and oily residues which

can collect rapidly over a short period of time if you are not careful or clean with

the wrong solutions. The last step of the leather cleaning process should always

include a leather conditioner or protector, this keeps the leather supple, restoring

lost moisture and offers some protection against body oils and spillages.

Please remember that leather items are easily damaged! Do not use household

detergents on your leather, never rub or scrub at it either.

Strong sunlight can be damaging over time, making colours fade, placing your leather

items beside radiators and other heat sources can cause drying and cracking.

Leather really does need to be cared for properly, just like everything else if you

really want to get the best out of it, and for it to last for many years to come.

So why not keep your leather furniture in great condition for longer by calling
